An arbitrary cut becomes truth the moment someone with power calls it a path.
The image is violent: a knife, not a pencil. Someone cuts the paper, then calls the wound a road. Kafka shows how authority is manufactured — an arbitrary, even aggressive act becomes a norm because someone had the power to name it. The mechanism is social recognition: if everyone accepts the line, it becomes a path. Laws, traditions, and organizational rules often work this way. An absurd office regulation survives for years simply because someone once wrote it down and nobody asked why.
