Lichtenberg separates two faculties we often confuse. Imagination generates; memory verifies. Memory keeps track of what actually happened and how earlier ideas turned out. When fantasy dominates, the mind repeats the same beautiful dreams without learning from failures. Think of the entrepreneur who keeps starting new projects and forgets why the old ones failed. Half-thinking looks creative but never advances, because it has no past to stand on.
