Study doesn't fill the gap in your knowledge; it makes it visible.

The maxim reverses the natural expectation: you do not study to accumulate certainties but to discover the vast proportion of what you do not know. Ignorance is comfortable; only study makes it visible. A student who has read one textbook believes he masters the field; after ten years of specialization he understands how many controversies, exceptions, and unknowns stand behind every page. Intellectual humility is not the opposite of knowledge but its product.
