In the face of life's mysteries, sometimes it is wiser to deepen them than to explain them.

“Sometimes our duty before a mystery is not to clear it up, but to deepen it so much that we turn it into a still greater mystery.”Lucian Blaga · Pietre pentru templul meu · 1919 · Pietre pentru templul meu, Aforisme

Deepening a mystery instead of clarifying it is sometimes a wiser duty.

Blaga reverses the usual reflex to clarify everything. A deepened mystery becomes a source of wonder and creativity, not a problem to solve. For example, instead of analyzing why you love someone, you can let that love grow and become more complex. The mechanism is accepting the limits of knowledge and turning them into art or spirituality.

Blaga does not say to give up knowledge, but to choose what kind of knowledge you value. When your friend shares an old pain, you can dissect it with rational questions. Or you can let it remain whole, like a gem you look at together. The second choice deepens the bond, not the explanation. This is how a mystery that unites is born, not one that divides.

Deepening a mystery does not mean staying passive. When your child asks why night exists, you can answer with a fairy tale about watching stars. This answer does not explain astronomy, but it feeds imagination. The mystery thus becomes a space for play, not a void to fill. Instead of reducing the unknown, you turn it into a source of creation. This way you make the question a gate, not a wall.

Blaga invites us to see mystery as a source, not an obstacle. When a colleague says they don't understand why a project failed, you can insist on finding the exact cause. Or you can accept that some things remain unclear and ask: what can we learn from this uncertainty? The second approach opens space for intuition and collaboration, not blame. Mystery becomes a bond, not a crack.

Blaga shows us that mystery can be a resource, not an obstacle. When you do not know what gift to choose for a loved one, you can turn this uncertainty into a careful search. Instead of rushing to solve the problem, you let the mystery guide your steps. Thus, the choice becomes an act of love, not a simple decision. The mystery makes you more attentive to the other person.

Why it matters In the age of artificial intelligence and data, this thought teaches us to value unanswered questions and not reduce life to information.
