“Thus is my love for you, Like the ray of a star long gone, It still touches you, sweetly, and in sighs”Mihai Eminescu · Poezii · 1883 · La steaua, strofa 4
Authentic love remains alive and touches, even after its physical source has vanished.
Eminescu compares love to the light of a star already dead, traveling through the universe and reaching us long after the star has gone out. Likewise, the poet's love remains alive and continues to sweetly touch the beloved, even if he himself may no longer be. It is an image of the eternity of feeling, transcending physical presence and death.
Why it matters It comforts us with the idea that authentic love does not die with separation or the passage of time.
