True freedom cannot exist without taking responsibility.

“Freedom implies responsibility; without it, freedom is anarchy.”Mihai Eminescu · Publicistică · 1880 · Timpul, 1880

Authentic freedom is a function of responsibility; without it, it becomes chaos.

Eminescu rejects the idea that freedom means doing whatever you want, without limits. He argues that genuine freedom involves being aware of the consequences of your own actions and respecting the rights of others. Without this responsibility, freedom becomes chaos and violence, that is, anarchy. A concrete example: freedom of speech does not include the right to incite hatred, because it harms society.

Eminescu warns that freedom without responsibility leads to chaos. In everyday life, this means that when you drive a car, the freedom to move implies obeying traffic rules. Without them, roads would be dangerous for everyone. So true freedom is not the absence of constraints, but the acceptance of limits that protect the common good. How do we apply this principle in public debates?

Why it matters It helps us understand that personal freedom has limits and that a functional society is based on a balance between rights and obligations.
