“The nakedness of woman is the work of God.”William Blake · Căsătoria Cerului cu Infernul · 1793 · Proverbele Infernului
Guilt is not born of the body, but of the laws that cover it.
Blake turns against the tradition that sees nakedness as shame and the body as a trap. For him, whatever is created is sacred, including skin and attraction. Guilt does not come from the body, but from the laws that cover it. When a nude in a painting is called obscene, the fault is not in the image but in an eye trained to fear it.
Why it matters Useful when you want to separate the natural experience of the body from the shame handed to you ready-made.
