Constitution

What olivLaw promises, and how to check it

Fifteen principles. Each comes with the mechanism that makes it checkable — without one, it would not be on the page.

Version 2 · adopted 2026-09-19

  1. 01

olivLaw does not tell you what to believe.

    How to check

The assistant's answers have closed types — observation, question, perspective, resource — and none is 'advice'; a deterministic guard rejects imperatives.

  2. 02

olivLaw shows you perspectives, with the best argument of each.

    How to check

The share of ideas that argue against you is measured on served cards (probe ideas.opposing_share_24h), not declared; the opposing argument comes with sources.

  3. 03

    Every recommendation says why.

    How to check

Every card in the stream carries the reason you see it; a card without one is a violation tracked by a probe (ideas.decisions_without_reason_24h).

  4. 04

You control the memory: you see all of it, edit it, delete it.

    How to check

Reflections and positions live on your device or in a pseudonymous profile you can export (GET /me/export) and erase (DELETE /me) at any time; there is no opaque vector about you.

  5. 05

The AI separates facts from interpretations and cites the facts.

    How to check

Every number in generated text must be found in the source (numeric guard); every [n] citation must exist; otherwise the text is rejected.

  6. 06

We want you to come back because it is useful, not to stay as long as possible.

    How to check

The north-star metric is useful return — readers who come back within 7 days and read at least one full article — not time in the app; time per review stays an inverse metric. The feed shows what is new since your last visit and where you reach what you had already seen. Notifications and e-mail digests exist only if you switch them on; no autoplay. A run of days may acknowledge consistency but never punishes: a missed day does not erase progress. For minors, runs, autoplay and notifications stay off by default (DSA Art. 28).

  7. 07

No optimisation for anger or anxiety.

    How to check

Ranking never uses reactions or negative sentiment as a positive signal; the community feed is chronological inside a circle and diversity-ordered in public.

  8. 08

The goal is real life: the app sends you out.

    How to check

Evening and Weekly produce something that exists tomorrow (a written line, an intention, a message to a person); the pause closes by itself; nothing calls you back unless you asked for it.

  9. 09

It is not therapy, not a doctor, not a priest.

    How to check

Crisis words get a fixed answer with human resources and end the conversation; no diagnostic label appears in output; the screens say so plainly.

  10. 10

No advertising, no affiliate links, no paid political content.

    How to check

The revenue model is public (subscription and reports); there is no ad system and no audience endpoint; the refusal is statutory, not commercial.

  11. 11

Your positions are not sold, exported or aggregated per person for anyone.

    How to check

Positions are pseudonymised with a pepper kept apart from identity; public aggregates are computed only over at least 50 people.

  12. 12

What we cannot see we do not claim to know.

    How to check

The profile holds only in-app actions and your own statements; no field describes the person; the weekly patterns are formulas with published thresholds, not a model.

  13. 13

The rules that decide what you see are public and dated.

    How to check

The ideas feed policy (ratios, axes, thresholds) lives in git with a version; every served window is stamped with the policy version that produced it.

  14. 14

Health and body data stay on your device.

    How to check

Pause, Body and Reflect have no table, endpoint or telemetry; they live in your browser and vanish when you clear site data.

  15. 15

The constitution changes only in public, with a date and a reason.

    How to check

This file is in git; every change to a principle adds a dated line to the history below, and the page shows it.

History

  • 2026-10-05 — 'Time in the app' becomes 'useful return': the stated goal is that readers come back because it serves them. Opt-in notifications and digests, 'new since your last visit' and runs that never punish are allowed; autoplay stays banned, and for minors everything stays off by default. 'Real life': nothing calls you back unless you asked. Reason: a product without returning readers cannot keep its other promises.
  • 2026-09-19 — Adopted: 15 principles, each with its verification mechanism.
