The ultimate adversary is not the world, but the inner fatigue of being in it.
Cioran moves the struggle from the outside to the inside. The world is not the enemy; the weariness of being in the world is. This weariness is stronger than any external obstacle. A person overwhelmed by life is not fighting concrete problems (money, relationships), but the feeling that nothing is worth the effort anymore. It is an invisible battle, more exhausting than any real adversary.
“I do not struggle with the world; I struggle with something greater — with my weariness of the world.”
