You don't become fully human alone: language, virtue and judgment grow only with others.
Aristotle observes that humans have language and reason, and both only make sense when shared with others. We cannot become fully human alone, because virtues, laws, and common decisions take shape only in the polis. A child raised in isolation never reaches mature speech or judgment; only within a family, and then a city, do the capacities of our species unfold.
Why it matters It reminds those dreaming of total self-sufficiency that identity and meaning are built within institutions and communities, not outside them.
