Food can fill your stomach, but it cannot give you a reason to eat.
The voice is cynical, but the point is serious: material security, food on the table and no excess, does not cover the need for meaning. Through Razumihin's contempt for such an arrangement, Dostoievski shows that a person can reject comfort when it feels like surrendering something essential. The mechanism is hunger of another order: someone without a purpose realizes that food does not feed everything. An employee with a steady salary and identical days can feel exactly this void.
