“Behold, I teach you the Übermensch: he is that sea into which your great contempt can plunge.”Friedrich Nietzsche · Așa grăit-a Zarathustra · 1885 · Partea I, Prologul lui Zarathustra
Contempt for what you are can become the fuel for who you'll become.
Nietzsche uses the sea as a vessel: the contempt he means is not hatred of others but man's dissatisfaction with what he currently is — his small measure, his compromises, his comfort. Instead of destroying, this dissatisfaction can be thrown into a purpose: the image of a human being yet to be created, not merely endured. The mechanism is transfiguring negative energy into aspiration. A person who despises his own laziness and, rather than punishing himself, builds a new discipline turns that contempt into the sea it can plunge into.
Why it matters It shows how to turn self-dissatisfaction into an engine of change rather than paralysis.
