Cervantes places a parent's honesty above wealth or titles, because it is the only inheritance that opens doors while asking nothing. A clean name precedes the child into every room, and the lived example gives him a moral compass no fortune can buy. The mechanism is reputation: the trust earned by the parent transfers to the child before he utters a single word.
