There are four overlapping worlds: past and future time, each person's inner mystery, personal dreams, and the human search in reality.

“From the world that passes, what was and what will be, From the secret world that each one carries, From the world of dreams that we bear in our soul, From the world among men that we seek in the world.”Mihai Eminescu · Poezii · 1883 · La steaua, strofa 5

We live simultaneously in four overlapping worlds: temporal, secret, of dreams, and of human quest.

Eminescu splits the world into layers that coexist in every person. The first is the temporal world of history. The second is the secret each carries in their soul. The third is the world of dreams, and the fourth is the collective search for meaning among people. The lines say we do not live in a single reality but in several at once, and the inner life is richer than the outer one.

Eminescu does not simply describe four separate worlds. He shows they intertwine in every moment. When you sit at your desk and recall a childhood memory, past time overlaps with present reality. At the same moment, your inner secret – an unspoken desire – lives alongside the dream you carry. These worlds are not hermetically sealed. They communicate through you. The real challenge is to recognize them and let them coexist, not to choose just one.

Why it matters You use this idea when you feel daily reality does not tell the whole story about you. It reminds you to value your dreams and personal secrets as real worlds, not mere escapes.
