“Education is the only inheritance that cannot be stolen.”Mihai Eminescu · Publicistică · 1880 · Timpul, 14 februarie 1880

Education is the only wealth that remains permanently and inalienably yours.

Eminescu emphasizes that material goods can be stolen, lost, or destroyed, but what you know remains yours forever. A house can burn, money can be stolen, but knowledge and skills acquired through education are inalienable. A person who has learned a trade or read books can be stripped of everything except what is in their mind. Education is the treasure no thief can steal.

Eminescu sees education as an invisible dowry. Unlike a house or money, knowledge cannot be confiscated by anyone. Think of a craftsman who loses his workshop in a fire. He can rebuild everything because he knows how to work. This inner certainty turns education into a shield against the unpredictable. It becomes the foundation on which you can rebuild anything.

Why it matters It encourages us to invest in knowledge as the most secure form of wealth. It reminds us that in times of crisis, education remains the one resource that cannot be taken from you.
