“A prince must be both a fox and a lion.”Niccolò Machiavelli · Principele · 1532 · Capitolul XVIII
Machiavelli says a prince needs two complementary qualities: the fox helps him recognize and slip through traps, the lion helps him scare off wolves. The mechanism: cunning alone commands no respect, brute force alone avoids no traps. For example, a leader who negotiates with diplomacy (fox) but, when necessary, shows military strength (lion) will be hard to defeat.
Why it matters Today, an entrepreneur must be both strategic (fox) and decisive (lion) to navigate competition and assert their vision.
