Real presence costs renunciation: where you choose no single place, you are nowhere.
Seneca attacks an old disease: the desire to be in every place, at every event, with every person. Multiplied physical presence produces no real presence. A man at dinner with his family who checks his phone every minute is neither at home nor away. Depth of experience demands the sacrifice of options: you choose one place, one person, one work, and give yourself wholly to them.
Why it matters It is a direct lesson for the age of notifications, multitasking, and fear of missing out.
