Anger cannot be dosed: once unleashed, it stops nowhere near where you aimed.
Seneca answers the common defense of anger: that it motivates soldiers or deters wrongdoers. His argument is that an impulse which breaks loose cannot be dosed; once kindled, it does not stop at the right target. True virtue acts calmly and precisely, not through fury. A boss who shouts to enforce discipline creates fear rather than respect, and loses control of the outcome.
