The supreme art is to subdue the enemy without fighting.
Sun Tzu redefines victory: not the violent defeat of the enemy, but achieving your goals without fighting. A battle, even if won, consumes resources, leaves wounds, and creates enemies. Instead, through diplomacy, alliances, deterrence, or strategic maneuvers, you can get the same result without losses. For example, a company might acquire a competitor instead of entering a price war that hurts both sides. True mastery lies in making confrontation unnecessary.
