Reason drives nothing: it is only the fence around the energy that moves everything.
Blake overturns the usual hierarchy: reason does not command while passion obeys; passion is the engine, reason the fence around it. Reason looks like a leader because it is visible and orderly, but it creates nothing. A budget is reason; the desire that makes you save is energy. Without desire, the budget is pointless.
Why it matters It warns you not to confuse rules and brakes with the source of motivation, which lies elsewhere.
