   Philosophy becomes sterile and worthless when it loses its connection with authentic human suffering.

   Cioran rejects academic philosophy, represented by Kant, because it is too clean, too rational. He looks in thinkers for accents of sadness, weakness, humanity. A philosopher who shows no emotional crack seems false to him. For example, a perfectly constructed philosophical system that says nothing about the pain of existence is, for Cioran, an empty edifice.
