“Life becomes easier for a man when he begins to believe in himself.”Anton Cehov · Scrisori · 1900 · lui Suvorin, 1892
Your hesitation is extra weight; confidence cuts it from the list.
Chekhov wrote this in a letter of encouragement to a young fellow writer full of doubts. The mechanism is practical: whoever doubts their own capacity hesitates, asks permission, stalls at every obstacle; whoever has confidence acts, and action lightens the load. Life does not objectively become easier — it becomes easier for the person, who no longer adds their own hesitation to existing burdens.
Why it matters It is a reminder that the weight of hardships you perceive includes your own insecurity, and building confidence — through small, proven acts — cuts into that load.
