Knowledge sees the solution, courage applies it: only together they make memorable deeds.
Gracián splits success into two parts that need each other. Knowledge without courage stays frozen: it sees the right move but never makes it. Courage without knowledge is blind impulse, striking into the unknown. The mechanism is complementarity — each fixes the other's flaw. A doctor who diagnoses perfectly but dares not attempt the risky operation, and one who operates without a diagnosis, fail in equal measure. Only the combination produces memorable deeds.
Why it matters Useful in career decisions: preparation shows you the move, but at some point you must sign, speak, or stake something on it.
