The sun, symbol of known grandeur, is only a beginning: greater lights exist that we have not yet seen.

The sun is but a morning star.Henry David Thoreau · Walden · 1854 · capitolul 18 (Concluzia / Conclusion)

Even the sun is only a morning star: what you've reached is a beginning, not a ceiling.

The last sentence of Walden inverts the familiar hierarchy: even the sun, source of life and of the day's order, is only a morning star, a signal of a larger day. Thoreau suggests our everyday reality is a form of sunrise, not a final point. A person who believes they have reached everything after a whole career can look at life as a morning, not a sunset.

Why it mattersThe line works as an anti-despair perspective: any stage reached is a beginning, not a ceiling.
