Authentic genius cannot flourish without the freedom to experiment and make mistakes.
Mill argues that exceptional innovation and creativity cannot flourish in a repressive environment. Genius, by its nature, is nonconformist and experiments with new ideas; without the freedom to err and be different, it is stifled. For example, an artist or inventor living in a society that punishes originality will not be able to make remarkable contributions.
