“Wisdom is not to know many things, but to know what is true.”Nicolae Iorga · Cugetări · 1911 · secțiunea II
Wisdom is not the quantity of knowledge, but the discernment of truth.
Iorga distinguishes between erudition and wisdom. You can accumulate a vast amount of information without being wise if you cannot tell truth from falsehood. Wisdom is the ability to discern the essential and to recognize truth wherever it appears. A person who knows thousands of useless facts but believes in superstitions is not wise. Truth is the compass that makes knowledge valuable.
Why it matters It helps us avoid confusing the quantity of information with the quality of thinking. It encourages us to seek truth, not just collect data, especially in the age of information overload.
