Cultural value is measured by the profound excellence of works, not by their quantity.
Maiorescu rejects the idea that the sheer volume of books, films, or music produced indicates a high cultural level. A single masterpiece is worth more than a hundred mediocre works. The Library of Alexandria held hundreds of thousands of volumes, but only a few survived and matter. Quality, not quantity, defines authentic culture.
Why it matters It urges us to prefer depth over superficial consumption and to invest time in valuable works.
