The body is not the soul's enemy, just the part our senses can see.

Blake attacks the old habit of splitting body from spirit and treating the body as something inferior or shameful. The difference between them is only a limit of our perception: the senses cut one slice out of the continuum of life and call it a body. When music gives you goosebumps, body and feeling are the same thing seen from two angles.

Why it mattersUseful whenever you catch yourself treating the body as an enemy of inner life: hunger, longing and ecstasy are soul, not departures from it.
