   In the depths of spiritual winter, we discover an invincible inner resilience.

   Camus uses the metaphor of winter to speak about suffering, loneliness, or despair. The 'invincible summer' is not naive optimism but an inner force that persists regardless of circumstances. For example, a political prisoner can find within themselves the dignity and hope that guards cannot take away. The aphorism does not deny pain but asserts that there is something in humans that cannot be defeated—a source of their own light.
