Know the masculine, keep to the feminine, and be the ravine of the world.Lao Zi · Cartea despre Dao și Virtute · -400 · capitolul 28

Power you hold but never throw around becomes shelter for others.

In the Dao De Jing, the ravine images the valley: the lowest point, where water flows and gathers, so everything arrives there willingly. The mechanism is the Daoist paradox: knowing power and refusing to wield it aggressively creates real authority, because others feel no threat. The feminine here is not weakness but the capacity to receive and let things come. An example: a strong manager who listens more than he commands earns loyalty and initiative from the team.

Why it mattersIt offers a model of leadership and life where strength is known but held back, and power becomes shelter rather than threat.
