The line describes a geometry of knowledge: error and truth enter through the same door, the door of trial. Seal it to become immune to mistakes and you lose truth as well, because you cannot tell in advance which idea is the right one. A lab that rejects every bold hypothesis makes no discoveries; a person who never risks being wrong learns nothing new about the world or about themselves.
