The time between provocation and reaction weakens anger more effectively than any direct effort to master it.

The greatest remedy for anger is delay.Seneca · Despre mânie · 45 · cartea 2, capitolul 29

Anger isn't mastered by fighting it, but by delay: wait, and it dies on its own.

Anger is a flash emotion: it burns hot but dies quickly if left unfed. Seneca argues you need not fight it head-on; simply refuse it immediate satisfaction. Delay creates a gap in which the first surge of fury decays on its own and reason returns. Someone who waits a day before answering an insult often finds there is nothing left worth saying.

Why it mattersUseful in any conflict: at work, at home, or online, postponing your reply prevents decisions and words you might regret for years.
