Saint-Exupéry distinguishes between rational knowledge, which sees only appearances, and deep understanding, which requires emotional connection. The Fox explains to the Little Prince that friendship, love, or loyalty cannot be measured or seen, only felt. For example, a child may see a box, but only through imagination and affection can they see the sheep inside.

A bond created through taming implies an eternal responsibility.
The Fox teaches the Little Prince that taming means creating a unique bond that transforms both parties. Once you have invested time and affection in a relationship, you cannot abandon that being without consequences. For example, a true friend or a pet becomes part of your life, and neglecting them would be a betrayal of trust.
