From books

True understanding of important things comes from empathy and intuition, not from superficial observation.

“Here is my secret. It is very simple: one sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eye.”Antoine de Saint-Exupéry · Micul Prinț · 1943 · Micul Prinț, Cap. XXI

What is essential cannot be seen with the eyes; it is understood only with the heart.

Saint-Exupéry distinguishes between rational knowledge, which sees only appearances, and deep understanding, which requires emotional connection. The Fox explains to the Little Prince that friendship, love, or loyalty cannot be measured or seen, only felt. For example, a child may see a box, but only through imagination and affection can they see the sheep inside.

In the office, your colleagues are more than titles or roles. When someone seems distant, they may hide a personal struggle. True connection happens when you take time to feel, not just to observe. For example, a manager who sincerely asks 'How are you?' can uncover unspoken needs. Just as the Fox taught the Little Prince, bonds are built through patience and attention to what is invisible. The next step is to apply this lesson in your own relationships.

Why it matters In personal relationships or leadership, this thought reminds us not to judge by appearances, but to seek essence through empathy.
